CCTV9英语新闻:Nepal quake moved Qomolangma 3cm SW
编辑:高中作文网 阅读 次The earthquake that hit Nepal in April moved the world's highest mountain three centimetres to the southwest. That's according to a report released by China's National Administration of Surveying, Mapping and Geoinformation. But the report says the height of Mount Qomolangma remains unchanged at 8,848 meters.
The report says Mount Qomolangma has moved 40 centimetres to the northeast over the past decade at a speed of four centimetres a year...and risen three centimetres over the same period. China has established an observatory network in the north side of the mountain since 2005. Researchers use data gathered over the past 10 years to monitor changes in the region.
Nepal's land ministry says the earthquake also moved the densely populated Kathmandu Valley southward by 1.5 meters, and lifted the valley by nearly a meter.
