I'm in charge

　　HONG Kong pop singer Edison Chan, 26, always wants to "be himself". Three years ago, he left his record (唱片) company because they were telling him what to do.

　　"They always had the final say about what kind of music I had to make. I didn't have a chance," he says. "But I don't want to be a machine, only recording what others want me to sing."

　　Now Edison has set up his own record company, and has a new album (专辑) out. He calls it Let Me Introduce Myself Again (《让我再次介绍我自己》). On the album, he doesn't just sing about love, as most singers do. He expresses his whole attitude (态度) toward life.

　　He has also broken up with his perfect "pop idol (偶像)" image the old record company forced on him. This time, he's making hip-hop music. He rapped (说唱) out his ideas.

　　"It's important that I have my own ideas," he says, "Now I'm happy whether the album sells well or badly."
