  Guo's not afraid

WHAT does being brave mean to you? Not being scared of creepy-crawlies (爬虫) or staying home alone at night?

For the Singaporean pop singer Jocie Guo (郭美美), it's not being afraid to take up the challenges in life. The short-haired girl with bright eyes became popular with her song Not Afraid (《不怕不怕》) last year.

This year, she is back with the album My Darling. It has 16 lively songs. Like her earlier songs, the new ones are mostly in a dance style. She wrote one, Palm to Palm (《双手合十》), herself. On November 27, she brought the CD to Beijing.

"I am confident I can do better and better," says Guo.

Before she started to sing, Guo was a college student. She studied electronics (电子学) in Singapore. But she loves singing and entered many singing competitions. Finally she got an offer from a record company.

She has lots of young fans, but there are also people who question her talent. They think she's popular just for her cute image. But Guo says: "I like to look on the bright side of life." She says, " If I cared about criticism (批评), I'd lose faith."
