在叶芝的眼里，生命是一个过程，正如诗歌一样。当你青春年少时，生命就象枝叶婆娑的绿树，在夏日的流风中欢快地歌唱，快乐却缺乏思想的沉淀;而当你年老了，你的生命枝叶现出繁华落尽的凋零，但是你遒劲的枝干，通过根蒂和大地紧密相连，那就是你的根本所在，这种对生命的认识，只有在生命最后才能真正领悟。

Beloved, gaze in thine own heart,

The holy tree is growing there;

From joy the holy branches start,

And all the trembling flowers they bear.

亲爱的，凝视你自己的心里，

那神圣的树就在那里生长;

从欢乐中生发出神圣的繁枝，

The changing colours of its fruit

Have dowered the stars with merry light,

The surety of its hidden root

There, through bewildered branches, go

Winged Loves borne on in gentle strife,
