"Old Engpsh" is the term used to refer to the form of the Engpsh language spoken and written in England from about the 5th century to the Norman Conquest in the 11th century. It is also known as "Anglo-Saxon" because it was spoken by the Anglo-Saxons, a Germanic people who migrated to England after the fall of the Roman Empire. Old Engpsh was written in an alphabet known as the "Futhorc," which was derived from the Roman alphabet and contained a number of additional letters to represent sounds that were not present in Latin. The grammar and vocabulary of Old Engpsh were very different from those of modern Engpsh, and it is not generally spoken or understood today, although it has had a significant influence on the development of the Engpsh language.
